About the Xu Bing Art Satellite Residency Program:
The Art Satellite Network Program is led by artist Xu Bing. Adhering to the principles of participation and sharing, Xu Bing has defined the vision of the program as follows: "By inviting artists and individuals from various fields, both domestic and international, to participate in the Xu Bing Art Satellite Residency Program, sharing the rights to use the satellite, each participant will create their own works. The goal is to integrate space technology with contemporary art, extending our creative reach into broader spaces, and collectively exploring this highly futuristic domain."
The project is organized and implemented by Xu Bing Studio in collaboration with Beijing Wanhui Chuangshi Cultural Media Co., Ltd., and is technically supported by Beijing Xingyi Lianxin Technology Co., Ltd. and Chengdu Guoxing Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd..
Artist Biography
Zhang Meichun is currently a faculty member at the Sculpture and Public Art College of Hebei Academy of Fine Arts. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Design from Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and a Master's degree in Modern Chinese Ink Painting. She is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Malaya.
Her work focuses on establishing a creative matrix called Anti-Mapping, aimed at escaping the cognitive gravity of human-centered thinking.
Zhang Meichun shifts her research perspective from the microscopic level of material chemical bonds to the macroscopic concepts of "data entropy" and "technological physics." She does not view algorithms merely as tools but as a logical language that deconstructs civilization. By juxtaposing the "materiality" of sculpture with the "rigor" of algorithms, she seeks the cracks in human civilization amidst the noise of data. Through antagonistic experiments and fabricated historical archives, she reveals the absurd essence of intelligent civilizations under the laws of cosmic entropy, attempting to rebuild a non-rational reflection on the meaning of existence at the limits of absolute logic.
